The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency was founded in 1982 as a result of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS-82). This was a watershed moment in the law of the sea, as it streamlined most of the gray areas. The demand of implementing national and international rules at sea became a necessity in order to consolidate the benefits afforded by UNCLOS-82.
